Abstract

Teaching involves taking into consideration both educational stakeholders as well as cultural and social context in which this process is embedded. This context is determined or delineated in a curriculum from which the different syllabuses of the subjects are drawn. Teaching mathematics, specifically at the upper secondary level, also involves acknowledging aspects such as the knowledge with which basic education students graduate and their attitude towards this subject. The purpose of this article is to encourage reflection on the duties of the mathematics teacher at this educational level and the strategies that can be incorporated in the classroom to face the challenge of teaching any subject in this area of knowledge.

Efraín Macías Hernández, Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes

Ingeniero bioquímico por la Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes (UAA). Trabaja en el Centro de Educación Media de la UAA como Profesor Investigador Titular C de tiempo parcial 21 horas en el Departamento de Matemáticas y Física desde hace 25 años. Ha impartido todas las materias del área de matemáticas de primero a sexto semestre y participado en la revisión de dos planes de estudios del bachillerato: 2011 y 2015, al igual que en la reacreditación del programa educativo de bachillerato en 2006. Cuenta con el Diplomado en Formación de Profesores para Educación a Distancia por la UAA.
