Current context of the diversity of drag in Aguascalientes, Mexico
Keywords:
Drag, gender, identity, diversity, gender and sexual dissidenceAbstract
This article examines the cultural context of drag in Mexico, with a particular focus on the city of Aguascalientes. Through a dialogue based on semi-structured interviews with participants from the diverse drag community of Aguascalientes: cisgender women, transgender women, and non-binary individuals. Through these conversations, we’re exploring the stories, performative identities, subjectivities, and narratives that come to life in a sociocultural environment marked by diversity, conservatism, and complex social issues. The findings suggest that drag in Aguascalientes is not only a form of artistic expression but also a vehicle for the vindication of gender and sexual dissident, as well as a response to dynamics of inequality and violence present in society.
