Abstract

Colombia in the 19th century was marked by a series of political, social and economic transformations that provoked armed conflicts such as the Neogranadina Revolution (1810-1819), the Southern Campaigns (1820-1826) and the War of the Supremes (1839-1841). These events led to an increase in the recruitment of men for the war in some areas of the territory. Because of this, desertion of soldiers during the conflicts became a significant phenomenon due to the methods used for their enlistment and mistreatment within the army. Therefore, this research proposes to analyze the dynamics of recruitment and desertion in Bogotá, Medellín, Copacabana, Amagá and Timaná by means of a case study.
