Abstract

Computational thinking is useful for developing various skills in students across all educational levels. This study describes the experience of promoting the development of computational thinking among students in a rural elementary school. The research follows a quantitative approach, aimed at measuring the level of computational thinking development and related skills. The sampling was non-probabilistic, with an intentional sample of 40 students from 4th to 6th grade and 6 teachers. A project-based learning methodology was implemented, along with a pre- and post-test analysis to assess the development of computational thinking. Participants created animations in Scratch, incorporating elements from Mayan culture. The results indicate that the applied methodology improves the development of the key pillars of computational thinking: decomposition, abstraction, algorithms, and patterns.
