Abstract

This article presents a brief introduction to engineering and the relationship between Civil Engineering and Agroindustry, from the perspective of the use of sustainable agroindustrial materials with the objective of minimizing environmental deterioration. From the former perspective, multi and transdisciplinary collaboration has been established between the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, and Guanajuato University.

Author Biographies

Lorena Vargas Rodríguez, Guanajuato University, Mexico.

B.Sc. in Chemistry and M.Sc. in Experimental Biology from the University of Guanajuato. Full-time professor at the same university, attached to the Department of Agroindustrial Engineering at the Salvatierra campus. Doctorate in Science from the National University of Trujillo in Peru. She has been awarded the Desirable Profile Recognition in Higher Education. Member of the CA-Ciencia y Tecnología Agroindustrial. His experimental research is aimed at the re-evaluation of nopal, through its functional and/or structural components such as the metabolite mucilage (commonly known as "baba"), vascular fibre and cuticle (surface layer) in the perspective of non-conventional applications.

Sergio Jacinto Alejo López, Guanajuato University, Mexico.

D. in Educational Sciences from the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo and professor at the University of Guanajuato in the Department of Agroindustrial Engineering. He is a member of the Consolidated Academic Body (CA) "Education in Culture, History and Art". He also teaches in the field of economics and marketing of agro-industrial products. He provides master courses in Educational Research at the University of Guanajuato and has experience in human resources training and directs master theses in education.

Rosalba Fuentes Ramírez, Guanajuato University, Mexico.

Metallurgical Engineer (University of Guanajuato - 1985), Master in Materials Science (UNAM - 1993) and PhD in Engineering (Universidad A. de Querétaro - 2003). Worked at the University of Guanajuato since 1991 in the Chemical Engineering Department of the DCNE. Level 1 in the National System of Researchers and desirable Prodep profile. He has participated in work on: metal matrix composite materials reinforced with ceramic particles, polymer matrix materials reinforced with natural fibres or with carbon nanotubes or graphene. Also in the development of dye-sensitised solar cells.
