Abstract

In this article, the author expresses the role of music education and the purposes and actions that music educators must own and develop. This article also showcases the vision that is needed to create and transform in society the role of music education as essential teaching within new educational awareness, mainly in Mexico. Moreover, the concept of some scientists and genius people of the past is addressed concerning the importance of the music practice in their everyday life. For example, the stories of Pythagoras, Kind David, Leonardo da Vinci, or Albert Einstein, among others, tell that they would play an instrument since this activity gave them a balance in their brain and intelligence. Possibly, music caused an inspiration and rise for their inventions and creations. Emile J. Dalcroze (1865-1950), an important musician and music educator, once expressed that “[…] There is no art that has not inspired many ingenious theorists” (Mark, 2008, p.65). Finally, this article emphasizes the mission of music educator, which also consists in raising awareness to both the educational authorities and the society in general about the need of offering quality music education to all children and young people.
